WOOF Product Development & Pre-Orders

Our Product Development Lifecycle Process

  1. Design: If an item is a new design, or undergoing significant modification or enhancement, Jerry chooses materials and prepares the tech pack for factory review and rapid prototyping of samples. This is in an iterative process that almost always happens in the background to some effect until a new piece is ready to be launched.
  2. Crowdfunding Pre-Sale: As an owner/designer-run small business, a limited amount of pre-orders are taken to fund factory production of the bulk items. The pre-sale process also helps to determine the color and variant ratios to order.
  3. Production: Material is purchased by the factory and workers scheduled, and it takes about 2-3 weeks to execute a bulk run of assembly-line handmade shorts or tanks, QA, bag and label, and box up for shipping.
  4. Logistics & Freight Transfer: Once a career flight is scheduled (timing of this is variable in China, there are a LOT of factories) items are transported by a third party shipping manager and then shipped express air freight from Hong Kong to our partner warehouse and fulfillment center in North Carolina. Customs on both ends and time in the air is a total of about 5 days. Once a batch shipment is in the air to the warehouse, it is no longer indicated as “backordered” on the product page since it its a reasonable time away from shipping to you.
  5. Warehousing: The warehouse accepts the inventory, scans and stocks in our rented space before starting fulfillment of orders. They work 24/7. It’s approximately 2-5 days between when they get the cartons on the dock and when orders start getting packed and shipped. This can take more or less time depending on volume from many other manufacturers the facility services. Black Friday is near and so many companies are ramping up stock and this season always makes logistics much less predictable.
  6. Shipping: Order fulfillment proceeds on a 24/7 shift schedule at the warehouse once items are “stocked” according to your chosen shipping method when you checked out. This stage happens quite fast.
  7. *Split Orders: It’s my warehouse’s call if they send them as they’re ready or wait for both – they get the tracking numbers ahead of time when inventory on its way – but I do pay extra to generally have them ship as items are ready and then out of stock items when they arrive. It’s likely that is you order different models of clothing, that you will receive separate shipment if you live in the U.S. Don’t panic if you receive a partial order! The slip inside will indicate if another item is on its way.

Why does WOOF do so many pre-orders?

  1. The materials I use for my shorts – namely nylon and premium stretch twill similar in quality to Banana Republic – are very expensive. Nylon especially is a premium, expensive commodity always changing price (mostly up) since it is virgin material and is not recycled, and several nylon producing factories have (seriously!) exploded in the last few years. That’s why all other companies use polyester – but besides being an effective bacteria/odor grower, polyester simply doesn’t feel as nice and doesn’t have 4-way stretch.
  2. I am a small business and run small handmade batches – meaning I don’t own the factory, and don’t have the sales volume to run thousands (I run hundreds) or millions at a time to take advantage of economies of scale.. So my costs are very high, between $15-25 per item depending on the model.
  3. I have not yet achieved a profit with the brand – it was heavily forecasted for 2020 but then covid took a shit on me. So pre-order is a way to sell just enough to put a deposit on batch production, as I cannot afford to do it otherwise because I’ve suffered heavy financial loss and don’t have an ad budget anymore – but I still can’t let go of WOOF 😉
  4. A buyer or investor with a production, warehouse and support network could make use of serious economies of scale with my highly converting, first of its kind premium products, plus my 30 years web development and online marketing experience – I’m wide open to it at this time! I’m not purposefully keeping production in small batches haha…fuck, I want to blow this up but capital or long term loans are simply not available right now in general. However, long term survival of the brand next year hinges on this as I’m just caught up and out of foreclosure and I think I probably have only about 6 more months of this in me to keep wanting to continue, so shout out if you are an interested and qualified investor 😉

*Terms & Conditions: Please note that once a backorder item is purchased your order cannot be canceled, refunded or changed. Otherwise it risks (being able to pay for) production and everyone else’s orders would be delayed.  To avoid ordering the wrong size, lay out clothing that fits you on your bed and measure it – size charts posted on this site are comprehensive measurements of the items we sell. Match our sizes to your go-to shorts – keeping in mind that cotton will shrink about half to 3/4 of a full size if dried (although also keep in mind they’re elastic so there’s wiggle room) and nylon mesh shorts and tanks will not ever shrink- and you will have no worries about the fit!.
